Evaluating Career Options
In your career, you will most likely work in one of three situations:
- As a freelance, independent contractor.
- As an employee of a company whose business matches your area of expertise
- As an employee of a company whose businees is outside your area of expertise
For this exercise, work with your teammates. Select one person as notetaker, then do the following.
- Create three columns on the paper, label them 1, 2 and 3.
- Divide each column into two rows. Label one row "Advantages" and the other "Disadvantages."
- Brainstorm on the advantages and disadvantages of each career type listed above. Write your responses in the appropriate space.
Job Search Resources
Use the Internet or any other resources you can think of to create a list of potential employers, job-search sites, and other job-search resources.
- 2 local companies
- 2 local associations or professional groups
- 2 job listing websites
- 1 Freelance job listing website
When you've completed your list, add your resources to the Job Search Resources section of our course wiki. Add the name of the site and under the appropriate category and provide a link to the site.
