Course Description

Research and development of visual designs and principles of human interactivity with new technology. This course will examine the conceptual and practical design of interfaces. An introduction to creating interactive menus and screens for disc and networked device mediums. This class will focus on production techniques of authoring, designing and developing visual interfaces.

Course Competencies

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand the history and current trends of disc and internet device technology;
  • Understand the technical specifications of disc and internet device technology;
  • Design and produce of disc and internet device elements including menus, subtitles, slide shows and multi-angle tracks;
  • Understand digital video and audio compression concepts and techniques;
  • Encode disc and internet device compliant video and audio streams;
  • Use scripting to implement interactivity;
  • Utilizing open-source mediums for authoring, design and development;
