Website Analysis
In this exercise, you will review competitor websites in order to define the content and navigation elements of your website, as well as possible web promotional features you may want to use. Download and use this form for the exercise.
Part 1:
Review the web sites of your client's competitors you identified in your competitive audit. Explore every page that you can until you think you have a pretty good idea of the web site's structure and content. Then in the space provided in the form, describe and list the following:
- Name of the company
- Company Homepage URL
- Homepage Content
- Global links
- Features of the web site that are not purely presentational (i.e. order forms, contact forms, blogs, comment boards, memberships, coupons, audio, video, Flash, other)
Repeat this process for each of your competitors' websites
Part II
Now that you've seen what the competitors have to offer, consider your company's website. You may already have some idea of the content areas that should be included on your site. Combine this with any ideas you got while researching the competitors sites or any ideas for making your site different. Use this form to list the content labels and provide a brief description of each area. Put down all your ideas.
Once you have a list that contains all your ideas, go through the list and mark a priority number by each item. Use the following numbering system:
- 1 - Have to have before site goes live
- 2 - Good feature that you would like to add at some point
- 3 - Extra features that aren't critical, but might be worth discussing with client
