Web Typography Do's and Dont's

Good typography helps the reader not read. Web typography even more so.

  • Don’t use too many fonts on one page. Use size and weight as your primary indicators.
  • Don’t use centered, right or full justified text
  • Give your text room to breathe, but only as much room as you need
  • Don't use bold type for paragraph text
  • Dont use ALL CAPS
  • Design for scannability, especially headlines, subheads
  • Use columns – 800 pixels is too wide for reading
  • Size text appropriately
  • Links are the only text that should ever be underlined

These rules are suspended with text designed for purely decorative purposes.
