WDM1141 Digital Typography

Final Project Description

For your final project, you will be developing a web page template and sample web pages on a topic of your choice. The topic must, however, relate to the general theme of typography, fonts, words and/or language. Your design will have to be created entirely from typographic elements. Some examples might be:

• A specialized encyclopedia or dictionary
• A history of typography or some aspect of typography
• Poetry, fiction or other creative writing

Technical Requirements

Your project will need to include the following:

• page designs use only shapes and typographic elements for visual design
• a css-based web page template
• at least five (5) html pages
• proper formatting of all html
• proper formatting and use of CSS
• Single set of HTML pages, separate CSS style sheets define formatting for screen and print
• at least two examples of typography used as graphic in screen pages

Grading

Your final project is worth 100 points and represents 50% of your final grade.

• Original and creative use of typography (20 points)
• ARCS Functionality - Aesthetics, Readability, Clickability, Scannability (25 points)
• Layout and composition (25 points)
• Formatting, structure of XHTML and CSS, use of CSS-based templates for screen and print platforms (20 points)
• Completeness, functionality, spelling and grammar (10 points)

Extra Credit

• Mobile version of website using additional CSS stylesheet
• Mobile version sized for 320px by 480px+ screen
