Evaluating Career Options

In your career, you will most likely work in one of three situations:

  • As a freelance, independent contractor.
  • As an employee of a company whose business matches your area of expertise
  • As an employee of a company whose businees is outside your area of expertise

For this exercise, work with your teammates. Select one person as notetaker, then do the following.

  • Create three columns on the paper, label them 1, 2 and 3.
  • Divide each column into two rows. Label one row "Advantages" and the other "Disadvantages."
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of each career type listed above? Write your responses in the appropriate space.
  • Depending on which of the three types of jobs you were most interested in, how might you design a web site portfolio? What kind of content would you include? How would your choice affect the content, look and feel of the website?
